A Birthday Gift, For My Orphans

My Hifz Orphan Sponsorship Journey

It was the early days of August, and I was celebrating my birthday at the end of the month. Undoubtedly, August has always been my favourite month.

But I was starting to realise, for this year, I wanted to do something special for someone else.

My initial intention was sparked during the course of my job in Global Ehsan Relief. As a Content Creator, I’m constantly exposed to inspiring stories, hard truths and shocking facts when I’m doing my research. I’m blessed with the opportunity to gain more knowledge through this way. I get first-hand accounts of the plight and condition of the people my organisation is helping through the various testimonials that we receive from our international partners.

The intention and desire to give back was stronger than before.

I started to understand the plight of those whose stories I never knew of and every day, I grew more and more thankful for what I’ve been blessed with. I started to be content with what I already had, and unlike previous years, I wasn’t looking forward to receiving gifts because I honestly did not know what else I needed.

This year, I really wanted to be the one giving what I can to help someone else.

And I knew exactly where I wanted to start and how I wanted to give back.

I posted my intention to join Global Ehsan Relief’s Hifz Orphan Sponsorship on my IGstory to my close group of friends. I was excited to share the cause with them – it was going to be my first time sponsoring an orphan – but I didn’t know what to expect or how the response from my friends would be. I just hoped that they would be as inspired to give back in their own way.

It was a pleasant surprise when two of my friends replied to my story and said that they wanted to join in as well, and there were other friends who replied asking me what the program is about, and what other projects we had.

Alhamdulillah, I am now sponsoring two orphans together with my two friends for a few months already!

When we first got our welcome pack –  as monthly donors, we were entitled to their Orphan Profiles – I was quite excited to meet, in a virtual sense, our two orphan children. We received a picture of them, along with a few of their particulars, just so we got a bigger idea of who they are. It made it feel so much more personal to receive these. Finally – we were able to put names to our prayers.

From this experience, I realised that sometimes you just have to take that step and ask around. Spreading awareness is so important, and we should not take that for granted, because you wouldn’t know who else is as interested in charity as you are. And just by asking, I’ve managed to do this together with my friends, who I wasn’t sure would want to come onboard with me.

Having someone to sponsor an orphan with definitely makes it easier to commit monthly. Also, the thought of doing this with your friends makes it much more worthwhile.

Come and join me in Sponsoring an Orphan! Let’s make a difference in a child’s life and provide them with the childhood that they deserve.
