Aid urgently needed for displaced communities
The recent disaster in Afghanistan were two large earthquakes and several aftershocks within a few days, killing more than 2,400 people. Homes were destroyed, lives upended and entire villages have been razed to the ground.
The prolonged war in Afghanistan has resulted in little by way of a proper emergency management system in the country. In a nation already struggling against poverty and malnutrition, this disaster requires urgent relief.
Millions of Afghans are currently facing huge humanitarian needs brought about by the country’s worst-ever drought, food shortages and vulnerable healthcare system. According to the UN, 18 million people are currently facing a humanitarian disaster, while another 18 million could quickly join them. Lives are being lost at a rapid rate.
