2023 Milestones

2023: Reaching New Heights

In 2023, Global Ehsan Relief scaled new heights in innovation, impact, and global reach. From launching our 5,000th water project to pioneering hybrid solar water stations, GER expanded sustainable solutions for vulnerable communities worldwide. The year saw rapid responses to disasters in Türkiye, Libya, and Gaza, while creative initiatives like the Cahaya Iman Concert and “Deep in the Dunya” brought humanitarian work to new audiences. As community programs grew across Sri Lanka, Yemen, and beyond, four million lives were touched.

Project 1:

5,000th Water Project

The year began with celebration as Global Ehsan Relief marked the implementation of its 5,000th water project -a milestone representing millions of lives transformed through sustainable access to clean water. In a symbolic ceremony spanning multiple time zones, community representatives from Cambodia to Pakistan simultaneously turned on their local water systems, united by a resource as basic as it is precious.

"Water is life," declared elder Mama Aisha at a well dedication in Sri Lanka, her weathered hands cupping the clear liquid. "For generations, my people have walked miles for contaminated water that made our children sick. Today, we walk only steps for water that brings health."

Behind these 5,000 projects lay countless stories of children returning to school instead of collecting water, women starting small businesses with their reclaimed time, and waterborne disease rates plummeting in vulnerable communities.

Project 2:

Türkiye Earthquake Response

February brought devastating news as powerful earthquakes struck Türkiye, claiming thousands of lives and leaving millions homeless amid harsh winter conditions. GER's established presence in the region enabled an immediate response, with emergency teams distributing thermal blankets, hot meals, and shelter materials within days of the disaster. In the ancient city of Antakya, where centuries-old structures had crumbled to dust, GER workers partnered with local volunteers to establish a community kitchen that would ultimately serve over 1,000 meals daily.

"When everything familiar has been destroyed, something as simple as a warm meal creates a moment of normalcy," explained the kitchen coordinator, stirring enormous pots of lentil soup. As temporary shelters evolved into semi-permanent housing, GER's approach evolved too. Incorporating trauma counselling, children's activities, and livelihood restoration alongside material support.

Project 3 :

Cahaya Iman Charity Concert

Innovation in fundraising took center stage in Singapore with the inaugural Cahaya Iman Charity Concert, where internationally renowned nasheed artists performed spiritual songs that moved audiences to tears and generous donations. The concert hall's atmosphere shifted between reverent silence and joyful participation as performers invited the audience to join traditional choruses. "Music speaks to the heart in ways that words alone cannot," reflected one performer backstage. "Tonight, we've connected spiritually while also serving a practical humanitarian purpose." The event raised substantial funds while introducing GER's work to new supporters drawn by the cultural and spiritual dimensions of the performance.

Project 4:

"Deep in the Dunya" Event

Across the globe, in the United Kingdom, young British Muslims gathered for GERUK's groundbreaking "Deep in the Dunya" event- part fundraiser, part community forum, part spiritual revival. The innovative approach attracted hundreds of young professionals seeking meaningful ways to integrate their faith, professional lives, and humanitarian concerns. Interactive workshops, inspiring speakers, and opportunities for immediate action created an electrifying atmosphere where theory transformed into practice.

"We're not just talking about making a difference," announced one young attendee as she signed up for a volunteer deployment. "We're actually doing it, right here, right now."

Project 5:

Libya Flood Response

When catastrophic floods devastated coastal communities in Libya, GER activated its emergency protocols, deploying assessment teams and establishing supply chains for critical aid. The organization's growing network of international offices proved invaluable as staff coordinated across borders to overcome logistical challenges in a region with limited infrastructure. "The world's attention may shift quickly, but our commitment remains," emphasised a field coordinator distributing emergency supplies to families who had lost everything. "We're here for both immediate relief and long-term recovery."

Project 6:

CIP Expansion into Sri Lanka and Yemen

The organization's volunteer engagement strategy expanded with the first Community Involvement Project (CIP) in Sri Lanka, where international volunteers worked alongside local communities on sustainable development initiatives. Simultaneously, a specialized deployment team traveled to Yemen, navigating complex security situations to reach communities cut off from aid by years of conflict. These parallel missions demonstrated GER's growing capacity to operate across diverse contexts from post-war reconstruction to disaster preparedness.

Project 7:

Gaza Conflict Response

When conflict erupted in Gaza later in the year, GER's established regional partnerships enabled rapid mobilisation of emergency assistance. The organization launched what would become the first of more than ten phases of continuous relief, delivering essential food packages, medical supplies, and clean water to communities under siege. Working through local partners when direct access was impossible, GER maintained critical aid channels that would sustain hundreds of thousands of civilians through the months ahead.

Project 8:

Hybrid Water and Solar Station Innovation

Innovation in water technology reached new heights with the implementation of the first Hybrid Water Well and Solar Water Station - a sophisticated system combining traditional well construction with solar-powered pumps, filtration systems, and elevated storage tanks. These integrated stations provided reliable water access to entire communities while eliminating ongoing fuel costs and reducing environmental impact. "This isn't just about providing water today," explained the project engineer. "It's about ensuring sustainable access for decades to come, regardless of fuel prices or supply chain disruptions."

Project 9:

First Ehsan Community Iftar

During Ramadan, the first Ehsan Community Iftar brought together people of diverse backgrounds to break fast and build understanding. What began as a simple meal evolved into a powerful demonstration of community solidarity as strangers shared food, stories, and perspectives across cultural divides. "In a world that so often focuses on what separates us, tonight we celebrate what unites us - our shared humanity and compassion," observed an attendee as volunteers distributed traditional dates to begin the iftar meal.

Project 10:

Four Million Beneficiaries Reached

As 2023 drew to a close, GER announced another remarkable milestone: four million beneficiaries reached across all programs - a number that represented not just quantities of aid distributed but quality of lives improved. Each beneficiary represented a unique story of challenge and resilience, collectively forming a tapestry of human experience across continents and cultures.

This achievement reflected not just the organisation's growth but the expanding circle of supporters whose contributions made such impact possible.

The Year In Reflection: 2023

Throughout this year of both unprecedented challenges and remarkable achievements, Global Ehsan Relief demonstrated that humanitarian work at its best combines immediate compassion with strategic vision—responding to today's crises while building foundations for tomorrow's stability and prosperity.
