2019 Milestones

2019 : Education & Community Development

In 2019, Global Ehsan Relief shifted from immediate aid to long-term empowerment, focusing on education and community development. From providing school supplies and bicycles in Tanzania to launching the first Mission of Hope in Batam, GER prioritized dignity and dialogue. The inaugural GER Summit in Malaysia unified teams across regions, while hands-on volunteer programs in Cambodia deepened community bonds.

Project 1:

Care For Education Initiative

(Tanzania)

Along the dusty roads of rural Tanzania, children's laughter echoed as they received something many had only dreamed of; their very own school supplies and bicycles through Global Ehsan Relief's Care For Education initiative.

"I used to walk two hours each way to school," shared 12-year-old Amina, her hands gripping the handlebars of her new bicycle. "Now I can arrive with energy to learn and even help my mother in the evenings."

These simple tools of education dramatically transformed daily reality for hundreds of students, cutting commute times from hours to minutes and providing the dignity of having proper materials to learn with. Teachers noted immediate improvements in attendance and participation as barriers to education began to fall.

Project 2:

First Mission of Hope

(Batam)

Just a short ferry ride from Singapore's gleaming skyline, the island of Batam tells a different story. One of persistent poverty amid regional development. GER's first Mission of Hope brought targeted relief to these forgotten communities living in the shadow of prosperity.

Volunteers worked alongside local leaders to identify the most vulnerable families, delivering customised aid packages and establishing sustainable support systems. "What makes this different," explained a community elder, "is that they asked what we needed rather than assuming they knew."

This approach set the foundation for genuine partnerships rather than temporary interventions.

Project 3 :

Inaugural GER Summit

(Malaysia)

In a sunlit conference room at Malaysia's Sunway Resort, representatives from each GER office gathered for the inaugural GER Summit. Field officers who normally communicated only through digital channels now shared stories, strategies, and solutions face-to-face.

"There's something powerful about looking into the eyes of colleagues who face the same challenges you do," remarked one participant.

This strategic gathering unified the organisation's vision and established coordinated approaches to complex humanitarian challenges across diverse contexts. Regional directors left with renewed purpose and practical roadmaps for increasing their impact.

Project 4:

Cambodia Community Involvement Project Expansion

The Cambodia Community Involvement Project expanded on previous volunteer initiatives, bringing teams of dedicated individuals to work directly in villages where GER had built infrastructure. These volunteers didn't simply distribute aid—they lived alongside community members, sharing meals, stories, and daily life.

"The relationships formed during these weeks often lead to lasting connections and ongoing support," explained the project coordinator.

"Our volunteers frequently return home and become our most effective ambassadors, sharing authentic stories of both challenges and transformation."

Project 5:

A Million Lives Touched

As the calendar year drew to a close, GER staff gathered in Singapore headquarters to verify an extraordinary milestone: the organization had now reached one million beneficiaries across its various programs. Each number represented a human life touched - a child educated, a family fed, a community strengthened, a future brightened.

This milestone isn't just about quantity but it represents one million individual stories of resilience and hope. And we're just getting started.

The Year In Reflection: 2019

Throughout 2019, GER transformed from an emergency responder into a community developer, addressing not just immediate needs but the underlying causes of vulnerability. By investing in education and community empowerment, the organization was now planting seeds for generational change in some of the world's most marginalized communities.
