2018 Milestones

2018 : Infrastructure & Disaster Relief

In 2018, Global Ehsan Relief deepened its impact by laying both physical and spiritual foundations across communities in need. From opening our first madrasah and purpose-built mosque in Cambodia to launching regional offices in Malaysia and Cambodia, the year marked major strides in infrastructure. At the same time, GER’s swift disaster response reached survivors of multiple Southeast Asian crises, while our first international Mission Trips and Kindness Day ignited a new spirit of hands-on compassion.

Project 1 :

First Madrasah

(Ma'had Al Manaar)

In the quiet countryside of Cambodia, the sound of children's voices reciting Quranic verses filled the air as Global Ehsan Relief opened the doors to its first madrasah, Ma'had Al Manaar.

"Education is the foundation upon which futures are built," remarked the centre's inaugural teacher as eager students filed into classrooms for the first time.

Within these walls, young minds would now have access to both spiritual teaching and academic knowledge - a powerful combination to break cycles of poverty that had persisted for generations.

Project 2:

First Purpose-Built Mosque

(Masjid Darul Ehsan)

Just kilometres away, the call to prayer echoed from the minaret of Masjid Darul Ehsan, GER's first purpose-built mosque. Community members who had previously traveled hours to attend Friday prayers now gathered in this sanctuary of peace.

Its cool interior providing respite from Cambodia's heat and a central gathering place for religious observance.

An elderly villager, tears in his eyes, whispered, "For decades I prayed for a masjid in our community. Allah has answered through the hands of those who built this place."

Project 3:

New Office Establishments

(Malaysia and Cambodia)

The organisation's footprint continued to grow with new offices established in Malaysia and Cambodia, strategically positioned to coordinate relief efforts across Southeast Asia.

These hubs became vital command centers when disaster struck repeatedly throughout the year, first in Lombok, then the devastating Sunda Straits tsunami, followed by the catastrophic events in Palu and Donggala.

GER teams mobilised within hours of each disaster, navigating treacherous conditions to reach survivors with emergency supplies.

Project 4:

First International Mission Trips

(Jordan and Aceh)

In an innovative approach to volunteer engagement, GER launched its first international Mission Trips to Jordan and Aceh. These journeys transformed compassionate supporters into hands-on humanitarian workers as they distributed aid packages, repaired damaged structures, and forged meaningful connections with affected communities.

"Reading about suffering is one thing," reflected a volunteer returning from Jordan. "Looking into the eyes of someone you're helping changes you forever."

Project 5:

First Ablution Facility

(Care For Clean Water program)

Clean water - the foundation of health, dignity, and development—became a cornerstone initiative as GER constructed its first ablution facility through the Care For Clean Water program.

This facility provided not just physical cleanliness but spiritual preparation for the faithful who could now perform ablution with ease before prayer.

Project 6:

Singapore’s Inaugural Kindness Day

Back in Singapore, the inaugural Kindness Day inspired thousands to participate in charitable acts, from distributing care packages to the elderly to organising community clean-ups.

Small acts multiplied into a movement that rippled throughout the city-state.

Project 7:

Winter Emergency Relief

(Türkiye)

As winter descended upon refugee camps in Türkiye, GER relief workers battled snowstorms to deliver thermal blankets, winter clothing, and heating fuel to Syrian families living in canvas tents.

One mother, accepting a winter coat for her young daughter, expressed what many felt: "You remembered us when the world grew cold."

2018 In A Nutshell: Building Hope, Brick by Brick

From opening our first madrasah and mosque in Cambodia to launching regional hubs and responding to disasters, 2018 was a year of growth and giving. We ended it with laughter and impact at our “Comedy for a Cause” dinner, proving joy and generosity can go hand in hand.

The Year In Reflection: 2018

The year culminated in an evening of both laughter and purpose at the "Comedy For A Cause" Charity Dinner. Attendees wiped tears of mirth from their eyes as comedians performed, then opened their hearts and wallets when presented with GER's vision for the coming year—proving that joy and generosity are powerful companions in the work of humanitarian relief.
