What’s Qurban like overseas? Hear from our team!

Celebrating the festive days of Eid with our loved ones are what most of us look forward to every year. For our Global Ehsan Relief staff, spending Eid away from home for deployments are something that they go through each year. If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to celebrate Eid, in particular Eid ul-Adha, overseas, read our staffs’ account on what it was like carrying out Qurban overseas this year!

Alhamdulilah, I have had a profoundly rewarding and enlightening experience during my trip to Uganda. Witnessing the challenges faced by the impoverished population first hand has opened my eyes to the magnitude of their struggles. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, we were able to provide fresh Qurban meat to more than 6,500 individuals in the poverty-stricken regions of Uganda.

The process of preparing and distributing the Qurban meat was laborious, but the sense of fulfillment we experienced upon seeing the grateful smiles of the recipients made it all worthwhile. Qurban goes beyond simply giving out meat; it represents extending assistance to those in dire need.

Alhamdulillah, this is the first time I have had the opportunity to participate in a Qurban Relief program abroad. Imagine going to a Hindu-majority country during the Qurban season. There were many challenges that I had to face – one of it being the continuous rainfall. However it had all been worth it because we successfully served so many beneficiaries who only get to eat meat once a year.

Never in my life would I have imagined that I would have the opportunity to visit the villages there. I’ve been to the rural places of Sabah several times before but it cannot be compared to the level of poverty over there. In Bihar, India, I can say that almost all of them live in a very small house. The average community here has a large family with approximately 10 people.

This had been a very valuable & eye-opening experience. I enjoy seeing the beneficiaries smile, and none of that would have happened without the donors’ help. Without our Qurban distribution, most of them would not be able to eat meat for another year. I hope to be able to be involved in more missions abroad & help more people together with Global Ehsan Relief, Insya-Allah.

Alhamdulillah, conducting Qurban in the Middle East presented its challenges, but overall, it proved to be an incredible and enlightening journey.

My team and I had a valuable learning experience during this trip, as it was our first time conducting and witnessing Qurban overseas. Additionally, we had the opportunity to forge stronger relationships with our partners in the Middle East. Alhamdulillah, we successfully carried out the Qurban in Turkey, Syria, Lebanon and Jordan, thanks to the generous donations from our supporters, and witnessed the positive impact it had on the refugees in the four countries we visited. Despite the tight schedule, seeing how this Qurban initiative benefited the refugees made it all worthwhile.

I express my deepest gratitude to our donors and supporters of Global Ehsan Relief, particularly during this Qurban period. I would also like to extend my thanks to GER for granting me this opportunity to be part of this meaningful mission. Alhamdulillah.
