3 Easy Sunnahs to Transform Your Fridays

Discover how three simple Sunnahs can fill your Fridays with blessings - plus how you can share those blessings with those in need.

Friday isn't just another day of the week - it's a mini-Eid, a weekly reset button for our souls, and a blessed opportunity to draw closer to Allah SWT. The Prophet Muhammad SAW taught us that Friday is the best day the sun rises over, and with just a few simple practices, we can unlock its incredible blessings.

Ready to make your Fridays more meaningful? Here are three easy Sunnahs that will elevate your day and fill it with light!

1. Self-Care Routine

Starting your Friday with a complete self-care routine is one of the most rewarding ways to prepare for Jumu'ah. Think of it as your spiritual and physical reset - washing away the week's worries, refreshing your body, and stepping into another week with renewed purity, confidence, and intention.

The Hadith: Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri RA reported that the Messenger of Allah SAW said: "The taking of a bath on Friday is compulsory for every Muslim who has attained the age of puberty, and (also) the cleaning of his teeth with Siwak, and the using of perfume if it is available." (Sahih al-Bukhari 880)

Make it easy: Set aside 20-30 minutes on Friday morning for your self-care. Start with a refreshing shower or bath - use it as a moment of mindfulness, visualising your sins being washed away as the water flows over you. Then thoroughly clean your teeth with miswak, put on your best, cleanest clothes, and apply your favourite perfume or cologne. You'll feel amazing, AND present yourself beautifully before Allah SWT!

The reward: In another hadith, the Prophet SAW said that whoever takes a bath on Friday and does it well, purifies himself well, puts on his best clothes and perfume, then comes to the mosque, he will be forgiven for sins between that day and the previous Friday. (Sunan Ibn Majah 1097) Subhanallah, a whole week of minor sins forgiven, all from this beautiful self-care routine!

2. Recite Surah Al-Kahf

Surah Al-Kahf is like a spiritual shield for your week ahead. With its powerful stories of faith, patience, and divine wisdom, this beautiful chapter of the Qur’an illuminates our hearts and protects us from trials. And the best part? You can recite it anytime on Friday - morning, afternoon, or evening!

The Hadith: The Prophet Muhammad SAW said: "Whoever reads Surah Al-Kahf on the day of Jumaah will have a light that will shine from him from one Friday to the next." (Mishkat al-Masabih 2175)

Make it easy: Download a Qur’an app with audio recitation so you can listen or recite along during your commute, morning routine, or while doing household tasks. If you're tight on time, start with just the first ten verses; the Prophet SAW told us these verses alone offer protection from the Dajjal!

The blessing: Imagine carrying a light with you throughout the entire week - a light that guides your decisions, brightens your relationships, and keeps you connected to your faith. That's the gift of Surah Al-Kahf every Friday!

3. Send Abundant Salawat (Blessings) Upon the Prophet SAW

Friday is the day all our salawat upon the Prophet SAW are presented directly to him! This simple act of remembrance brings us closer to the incredible person who brought us our deen and carries immense spiritual rewards.

The Hadith: The Prophet SAW said: "Among the most excellent of your days is Friday; so invoke more blessings on me that day, for your blessings will be submitted to me." (Sunan Abi Dawud 1531)

Make it easy: Set reminders throughout your Friday to say "Allahumma salli 'ala Muhammad" or your favourite version of salawat. You can also say it while waiting for prayer, during your lunch break, or as you're winding down your day. Every single one counts!

The reward: In another hadith, it’s mentioned that every time you send blessings upon the Prophet SAW, Allah sends blessings upon you tenfold. (Sunan an-Nasa'i 1296) By increasing salawat on Fridays, we're strengthening our bond with the best of Allah SWT’s creations and inviting His mercy into our lives.
