It has been narrated that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said “When a man dies, his deeds come to an end except for three things: Sadaqah Jariyah (ceaseless charity); a knowledge which is beneficial, or a virtuous descendant who prays for him (for the deceased).” [Muslim]

Sadaqah Jariyah is a form of charity that never ends. The reward of donating to this deed continues even after you leave this world. Building a Mosque as a form of Sadaqah Jariyah means that for every time someone remembers Allah in the sanctuary that you helped build, you or the person you donated on behalf of will gain the reward.
